Tiger MJF-A vs MCZ-S: Which Tiger Bottle Is Actually Made in Japan

Published September 2, 2026

Tiger's US stainless bottle catalog now runs two parallel lines with different countries of manufacture, and the official product pages say so. The MCZ-S series is made in Vietnam and starts at $34.99. The MJF-A series, launched in the US in October 2025, is made in Japan from SUS304 stainless and starts at $59.99. That looks like a straightforward pay-more-for-Japan-made decision until you compare capacities -- at which point the premium turns out to be buying two different things at once.

  • → Suits buyers who want a compact bottle and treat country of manufacture as a deciding factor

For US Buyers

  • · Every size in this line is smaller than the entry MCZ-S -- this is a different product class, not a premium version of the same bottle
  • · Weight and insulation retention figures were not stated on the official page reviewed (September 2026), so they cannot be compared against the MCZ-S line on numbers
  • · The 4.7cm mouth takes standard ice cubes, which narrow-mouth bottles do not

Two Lines, Two Countries, Stated on the Page

Tiger’s US stainless bottle catalog is not one product family at different price points. It is two lines built in two countries, and the official product pages say which is which.

MCZ-S series — made in Vietnam. 0.6L and 0.8L, at $34.99 and $39.99 per Tiger’s official US pricing.

MJF-A series — made in Japan, SUS304 stainless. 0.24L, 0.36L and 0.48L, from $59.99. US launch October 1, 2025.

This is worth flagging because it resolves a question that was previously open. Earlier research on this site found no country-of-manufacture claim in the Tiger bottle listings checked at the time — our model-by-model guide to which Tiger products are made in Japan recorded that gap honestly rather than guessing at it. The current official pages state it for both lines.

The Comparison That Actually Matters

Here is the part the country-of-manufacture framing obscures:

MJF-A (Japan)MCZ-S (Vietnam)
Smallest size0.24L / 8oz0.6L / 20oz
Largest size0.48L / 16oz0.8L / 27oz
Starting price$59.99$34.99

The lines do not overlap on capacity at all. The largest MJF-A is smaller than the smallest MCZ-S. There is no size at which you can choose between a Japan-made and a Vietnam-made version of the same bottle.

Run the per-volume numbers and the premium looks different again. The entry MJF-A gives you 0.24 liters for $59.99. The entry MCZ-S gives you 0.6 liters for $34.99 — roughly two and a half times the capacity for just over half the price. Whatever you are paying for, it is not only the factory.

So the first question is not where it was made. It is how much water you want to carry. If the answer is more than half a liter, the MJF-A line does not have a product for you.

What the MJF-A Page Doesn’t Tell You

There is an asymmetry in the published specifications worth knowing before paying the premium.

Tiger publishes weight and 6-hour temperature retention figures for the MCZ-S line: 290g and 67C-or-above at six hours for the 0.6L, 320g and 72C-or-above for the 0.8L. Reviewing the MJF-A page in September 2026, neither figure was stated.

That is a gap in what this research found on the page, not evidence that the MJF-A performs worse. But it does mean a buyer paying nearly twice the per-unit price cannot currently compare the two lines on insulation performance using Tiger’s own numbers. The MJF-A’s documented advantages are its country of manufacture, its SUS304 material specification, and its roughly 4.7cm wide mouth — which does take standard ice cubes, something narrow-mouth bottles do not.

Warranty Doesn’t Change With the Factory

One thing that does not vary: Tiger’s US warranty gives non-electric vacuum-insulated products five years of coverage against vacuum insulation defects, and it applies the same way to both lines. A Vietnam-made MCZ-S and a Japan-made MJF-A get identical treatment if the vacuum fails.

The conditions apply equally too — purchase from an authorized distributor or reseller, and keep the proof of purchase. Our Tiger US warranty guide covers what that five-year term does and does not include.

Which One to Buy

Buy the MCZ-S060 if you want a normal everyday bottle. It is the best capacity-to-price product in Tiger’s US bottle catalog, 290g is genuinely light for 0.6 liters, and it comes with published performance numbers you can hold the company to.

Buy the MCZ-S080 if your day runs long enough that refilling is inconvenient. Thirty grams heavier, five dollars more, a third more capacity, and better published 6-hour retention than the 0.6L.

Buy the MJF-A if you want a compact bottle in the 8oz-to-16oz range and Japan manufacture is a deciding factor for you. That is a legitimate preference, and this is the only Tiger bottle line that satisfies it on the official page. Just go in knowing the size class is the real constraint, not the price.

If carbonation is on your list, that is a separate product line entirely — the Tiger carbonated bottle guide covers the MTA-T series and its pressure-valve design.

JP Japan Context

How It's Viewed in Japan

In Japan

Tiger operates manufacturing in Japan and in five other countries, with overseas plants established in Taiwan (1990), Hong Kong (1991), China (1997), Vietnam (2012), and India (2015), per the company's official history. Its US bottle catalog now draws from two of those locations at once.

The official product pages state country of manufacture for both current lines: the MCZ-S series is made in Vietnam, and the MJF-A series is made in Japan from SUS304 stainless steel. Earlier research on this site found no country-of-manufacture claim in the Tiger bottle pages checked at the time -- the current pages state it directly for both lines.

The two lines do not overlap on capacity. The MJF-A tops out at 0.48 liters; the MCZ-S starts at 0.6 liters. There is no size where a buyer can choose between a Japan-made and a Vietnam-made version of the same bottle -- the manufacturing split runs along the same line as the size split.

Tiger's Japan domestic bottle catalog continues to expand independently of the US line. The MKR-V and MTR-V series launched in Japan on September 1, 2026 with a one-piece gasket cap design; the launch materials reviewed make no mention of US distribution, and no US availability was found for those series in the pages checked (September 2026).

What That Means for U.S. Buyers

The headline framing -- pay $25 more for Japan-made -- does not survive a per-volume comparison. The entry MJF-A holds 0.24 liters at $59.99. The entry MCZ-S holds 0.6 liters at $34.99. That is roughly two and a half times the capacity for just over half the price. The premium is buying a smaller bottle as well as a different factory.

That makes country of manufacture the wrong first question. Decide what size bottle you need. If the answer is above half a liter, the MJF-A line does not have a product for you regardless of how you feel about where it was made.

The specification comparison is also incomplete in one direction. The MCZ-S pages publish weight and 6-hour temperature retention figures; the MJF-A page reviewed in September 2026 did not state either. A buyer paying the premium cannot currently compare the two lines on insulation performance using the manufacturer's own numbers.

Warranty coverage does not vary by factory. Tiger's US terms give non-electric vacuum-insulated products five years against vacuum insulation defects, and that applies to the Vietnam-made and Japan-made lines alike, provided the purchase was from an authorized reseller with proof of purchase.

Final Verdict

Conditional

Both lines are legitimate and both carry the same 5-year insulation warranty, so this is a sizing decision before it is a country-of-manufacture decision. The MJF-A is the only Tiger bottle line with Japan manufacture stated on the official US page, and it is the right buy if you want a compact bottle and treat the factory as a deciding factor -- but its largest size is smaller than the smallest MCZ-S, and its page does not publish the weight and retention numbers that would justify the premium on performance. For most buyers the MCZ-S060 is the better bottle at the better price.
